Derek Aubrey Palgrave

Derek Palgrave is a Cambridge Science graduate with an abiding interest in social and economic history. As a National Service man, he was commissioned in the R.A.F. (Equipment branch). He became technical director of a chemical manufacturing company also serving as a specialist advisor to trade associations and standards bodies. His historical writings have earned him a Fellowship of the Royal Historical Society and he has held office in several international, national and local historical societies. He contributes, on a regular basis, to several journals covering genealogy and heraldry and currently edits The Escutcheon, the Journal of Cambridge University Heraldic and Genealogical Society. He regularly writes about the origin of local surnames in the monthly magazine, "Let's Talk" which circulates in East Anglia. Since 1978 he has been lecturing at Conferences and to extra mural groups but more often he addresses specialist societies both in the U.K. and the U.S.A.
