I live in St. Paul, Minnesota, which is the setting of my Gangster-Era history, "Secret Partners." I've been a newspaper editor for many years, most recently with the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
I began to research St. Paul's fascinating Gangster Era after reading about a 1930s kidnapping in a newspaper article. Four years of research and writing followed, as the story grew more complex and interesting. The Minnesota Historical Society Press published "Secret Partners" in 2013.
I was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey.
In 1970 I was drafted into the Army and served in the infantry in the Mekong Delta. Two novels resulting from that experience were published by Delacorte Press in the 1980s.
I have worked as a journalist in Honolulu and San Francisco, graduated from the Iowa Writers Workshop, and moved to the Midwest when my wife, Alison, decided to pursue a Ph.D. at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
My novel "Jack's Boy" follows Jack Ruby and other Dallas characters in the months before the JFK assassination.
In 2015 I began to publish the "Mick Powers" series of four historical mystery novels set in Saint Paul during the Gangster Era of the 1930s.
My published books are:
* "Hollaran's World War"
* "We're Not Here"
* "Jack's Boy"
* "Secret Partners'
* "If The Dead Could Speak" (Mick Powers #1)
* "Dead A Long Time" (Mick Powers #2)
* "Dead Like Lazarus" (Mick Powers #3)
* "Dead Messenger" (Mick Powers #4)
