You probably know already that the most common piece of advice given to authors is, 'Write about what you know." I know about crime. I’m a reformed offender who managed to reinvent himself through writing. I didn't get any help with rehabilitation, just decided upon it myself and found salvation through turning myself into the established author I am today, with hardback biographies, local history and crime paperbacks and e-books to my name, as well as plays for stage and radio. All my writing is truthful, I don't pussyfoot about making crime genteel or civilised as some authors do, I just tell it like it is.
