Herbert T. Shillingburg

Herbert T. Shillingburg, Jr, DDS, is a David Ross Boyd Professor Emeritus of Fixed Prosthodontics at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. He received his DDS degree from the University of Southern California in 1962. After serving in the US Army Dental Corps and practicing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he taught at the University of California at Los Angeles. In 1972, he went to Oklahoma's College of Dentistry as a charter member of its dental faculty, where he served as chair of the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics until his retirement in 2003. Dr Shillingburg is the author of four other textbooks: Preparations for Cast Gold Restorations (Quintessence, 1974), Restoration of the Endodontically Treated Tooth (Quintessence, 1982), Guide to Occlusal Waxing (Quintessence, 1984), and Fundamentals of Tooth Preparations (Quintessence, 1987). He is the recipient of the 2000 Stephen L. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence from the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Supreme Chapter.
