Alan Boehmer has conducted regular wine seminars and wine tours since 1967. Originally based in Los Angeles, he served as a consultant for the Jurgensen's Grocery Company in Pasadena and for the Music Teachers' National Association convention in Los Angeles.
Mr. Boehmer has directed hundreds of wine tasting events in Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and San Luis Obispo, where he makes his current home. Longtime advocate for California wine, he joined Suite 101.com in 1998 as one of the earliest contributing editors, writing for their California Wine topic. He now writes weekly features and blogs for Suite 101's more expansive New World Wine topic.
Mr. Boehmer has visited wine producing regions in California (Cucamonga, Temecula, Santa Ynez, Santa Rita Hills, Edna Valley, Arroyo Grande Valley, Paso Robles, Monterey, Sonoma County, Mendocino County, Napa Valley, Sierra Foothills) Oregon, Washington, France (Burgundy, Loire), Germany (Rheingau, Rheinpfalz), Austria (Wachau), and northern Italy. He has been a member of the Wine Institute since 2000.
Mr. Boehmer is also a Canadian born pianist, organist, composer and educator. Graduate of Occidental College (M.A.), Los Angeles. Served as first chairman of the state commission on music theory for the California Association of Professional Music Teachers and has been guest lecturer on music education at California State University, Los Angeles, and California State University, Northridge. Composition commissions include the University of Redlands, the Great Falls (MT) Symphonic Choir, the Baptist Voice Children's Choir and the Pasadena Boys Choir. His works include "Messe pour les enfants du monde," premiered at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Paris; and "The Union Forever," a theatrical work for boys choir and orchestra showcasing music of the Civil War, premiered at Ambassador Auditorium, Pasadena.
