In the spirit of the values he writes about, which emphasize practical, empathetic compassion in action, Douglas Dunn has been involved in leadership roles in various civic, community and charitable organizations, as well as special projects benefiting Deaf people and Spanish-speaking immigrants (Doug is fluent in both American Sign Language and Spanish), civil rights, women’s rights, homelessness, education and domestic abuse.
He also pursues a vigorous regimen of physical fitness through non-competitive recreational and fitness activities. Doug is a life-long California native, currently living in a solar powered home in San Diego County, California, and drives an electric car. He enjoys positive interactions with humans, animals and nature.
Doug has presented lectures and workshops to college classrooms and community groups, in the United States and overseas, teaching others how to implement habits of success and happiness based on the simple four-step model presented in this books.
Doug says his greatest achievement was raising his daughter JoAnn (now all grown up and a mother, community volunteer and successful business owner herself!) alone, as a single parent, from infancy until remarrying during her teenage years. He married the former Thelma Mantos in 1987, and through her had the opportunity of becoming Dad to Tracy and Darby in the Philippines. Granddaughters Carina and Ella are Grandpa’s special buddies who share many activities with him.
Douglas Dunn of Southern California, author of “Dazhan” and “Extro•Dynamics,” should not be confused with the prolific and well-known Scottish professor of the same name, whose excellent literary contributions present a very different style and approach, and which has occasionally resulted in confusing, including in some misattribution, including on Amazon pages for some editions.
