Paul Daffinrud

I was born in Owatonna, Minnesota and lived there the first forty seven years of my life. It was here that I entered a career in law enforcement. I was a senior at Mankato State University majoring in criminal justice when I was offered a job as a deputy sheriff with the Steele County Sheriff's Department. While there I was in charge of the legal department where I would often work with IRS as they tried to collect unpaid taxes. A small restaurant in our town had failed to pay its taxes for two years and I was asked to assist them in closing down this restaurant. To make a long story short I ended up owning the restaurant myself and ran the restaurant while still a deputy sheriff. The restaurant became very successful and it was becoming increasingly difficult to run the restaurant and hold down my law enforcement job. I made the decision to leave law enforcement and spend full time in the restaurant business. Prior to me running the restaurant full time my wife came down with severe migraine headaches which lasted 24/7 and were quite debilitating. On a trip to Hawaii we discovered that her headaches disappeared while on Kauai. In 1992, eleven days before Hurricane Iniki we moved there and have been on the island ever since. It was here that I wrote Alter Ego which was based on a true story that my friend, the hero of the book related to me. He had worked on the case and so I was privy to some interesting details of the case that the public did not know. I knew this had to be put in book form. I am presently working on two new books which should be in print in the future.
