Arthur Flowers

I am Flowers of the Delta Clan Flowers and the line of O. Killens. I am hoodoo, I am griot, I am a man of power. I am mythmaker, a practitioner of literary hoodoo in the griotic school of Afro Am lit. The High Hoodoo of Memphis. I have written novels, creative nonfictions and graphic works. I am a bluesbased performance artist, have been Exec. Dir. of The Harlem Writers Guild and various nonprofits, and am professor emeritus Syracuse University, MFA fiction. I was trained by Babajohn Killlens, the Great Griot Master of Brooklyn, who taught his legions not only how to write but how to be writers. Taught us to be visionaries, what he called being a long distance runner, what I call the longgame. Shaping generations into the people we would have them be. Destinywork. I am a devout believer in nommo, the power of the word to forge reality. Gathering folk around the sacred fire and providing the visions without which the people will perish.
