Rugged people willing to work through rugged tasks typify the men and women of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Captain Boucher proved himself in all regards to meet the requirements and work in the career he knew he was destined for from an early age. David served in the United States Army. He began his fire service in 1953 as an auxiliary fireman with the Altadena branch of the Crescenta-Canada Civil Defense Corps, serving for two years out of fire station 12. He worked with several fire departments through his career. His goal was to serve the County of Los Angeles which he achieved in 1964. He completed his career as a Captain in the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Captain Boucher was asked by Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman to become a call-back Captain to serve as the Department's historian. He is pulling double duty to this day in this role since he provides his expertise as the historian for the Los Angeles County Fire Museum as well as serving on its Board of Directors. While serving as LACoFD Historian, Dave wrote two books on the the Los Angeles County Fire Department. His first, Ride the Devil Wind, which is the history of the Department, was published in 1991. It is currently available in its second printing here on Amazon. His second book, Devil Wind Fire Wagons, is about the firefighting apparatus of the Department. Dave's third book, Climbing the Ladder, is his biography along with stories of the fire service, serving in the Armed Forces in Germany, mixed in with historical facts on California, and his path through life. This book will be available shortly as he is putting in the finishing touches. He resides in Glendale, California with his wife Shirley.
