David L. Sloan

David L. Sloan IV is a Key West author, researcher, publisher, and producer whose work explores the history, mysteries, characters, and unusual culture of the Florida Keys.

He founded Phantom Press in 1998 and has written and published dozens of books, including Robert the Doll: The True Biography, based on decades of original research, and Who Is Bum Farto?, an investigation into the strange 1976 disappearance of Key West Fire Chief Joseph “Bum” Farto.

Sloan’s work has been featured by National Geographic, History Channel, Travel Channel, Discovery, BBC, and Food Network. He co-founded the Key Lime Festival, helped pioneer Key West’s modern ghost-tour industry, and serves on the board of the Alex Vega Key West Firehouse Museum.

He lives and works in Key West, where he continues to uncover the stories that make the island unlike anywhere else.
