J. CHRISTOPHER WHITE, primarily known as an internationally acclaimed sculptor, is a talented poet and author who lives in Loveland, Colorado. Known as Chris in the art community, he spends long hours in the rugged canyon lands of West Texas, hunting for inspiration through God’s creation, as well as unique specimens of wood and stone for his sculpting.
As an author, he has published two books: “Expressions In Wood” (Companion Press), and “Parables: Wood Sculptures” (Fox Chapel). These books highlight his poetry, as well as his unique sculptures. He is also the author of many poems, articles, and other minor publications. Additionally, Chris is a featured in The Difference Makers, published by The Lost Art Press.
As a sculptor, he crafts masterpiece works out of wind-twisted dead standing wood, primarily West Texas Juniper and aged Mesquite. Through his hands, these aged and weathered woods are transformed into a variety of subjects that flow into graceful movement. The message of each woodcarving is then amplified and refined by a poem. While the messages are drawn from scripture and his faith, the subjects created by this Christian are as variable as nature itself. The expertise gained from studies in wildlife biology at Texas Tech University and five years of studying human anatomy at the National Institute of Fine Arts are evidenced in his portfolio of birds, fish, mammals, abstract, and moving depictions of men, women and children.
His signature carving style, vibrant realism flowing into stylized movement, has continually won Chris top honors at national and international competitions; including “Best of Show” at the International Woodcarver's Congress in 1994 and Best in World, Interpretive Wood Sculpture at the Ward World Champion Wildfowl Carving Competition 2006 and 2009. His pieces are found in private, public and corporate collections worldwide.
