Jon H. Gutmacher is a retired Florida attorney with over forty years of criminal trial experience, and some 200 jury trials as lead counsel, including death penalty. His practice was devoted largely to firearm, weapon, and self defense cases, although he did successfully handle a large number of police liability cases as a plaintiff's attorney. His experience includes being a Florida prosecutor, police legal advisor, Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL), as well as being both an NRA certified firearms instructor, and NRA Refuse to be a Victim instructor. He is regarded by many as the foremost authority on legal issues involving firearms, weapons, and self defense in Florida, and remains very active in writing about his subject. His printed version book, "Florida Firearms -- Law, Use & Ownership" has sold over a quarter million copies, is often referred to as the "bible" on Florida firearm laws. The newest version, the "GOLD EDITION" has already gone thru four editions, the most recent in November 2025. The printed book is updated in print once yearly, usually in July, and covers almost all laws, Florida & Federal, related to firearms, weapons, and self defense (except hunting), and is also updated free on his website [www.floridafirearmlaws.com] with reference to any new laws, or cases that materially affect the book.
Besides his legal expertise, Mr. Gutmacher is also a well known narrative poet. His narrative fantasy poetry website has been ranked #1 in the nation by Google since 2011 for "best fantasy poetry", and he also writes and performs his unique version of cowboy poetry under the pseudonym of Marshal T. Justice. His new book under his pseudonym, "The Old West & Times Gone By" is available on Amazon both in print and an Ebook version. An earlier fantasy poetry work of Mr. Gutmacher, "Fantasy, Dreams, Battles, & Magic" is scheduled for reissue on Amazon as an Ebook in the near future.
