By the time Cheryl Dolby arrived in Roanoke Virginia, which is nestled in the magnificient Blue Ridge Mountains, she had spent many years as a glass artist. She decided to open a Stained Glass shop in the historic Farmer’s Market where she taught classes, created custom work and sold supplies all the while traveling to art shows across the country. After a few years, and having raised her four children, her fickle artistic temperament called out again and she knew she had to move on to other mediums. Clay sculpture appeared to be the direction she was headed and before long, she found her niche in creating Goddess Clay Sculptures. The sculpture seemed to take on a life of it’s own and Cheryl knew they had stories to be told, thus, the beginning of Cheryl’s writing career. “The stories that accompany each of my faces and figures, represent a special life. It is as if they speak to me and I must share their story with those who view my work. The stories usually come to me as I am sculpting. The legends are usually very spiritual in nature and carry a feeling of wholeness and unity and a sense of eternity.”

After being asked by many of her customers for copies of the stories, Cheryl compiled them into book form. The result was Cheryl’s first book, “She Who Whispers.” Since then, she has written several other books that have stemmed from inspiration from her travels. Woman Within the Web was the result of a class she took in anatomical sculpture in the Loire Valley in France where she lived in a castle that happened to be haunted. Morocco, A Journey Through the Sands of Time, came to life after Cheryl took her grandson to exotic Morocco.

Never allowing moss to grow under her feet, Cheryl followed another one of her passions of opening a garlic farm where she sold her magical garlic braids to her customers. After a recent trip to France, and being influenced by the French chocolateries, she decided to make a complete turn around and now sells her homemade chocolate truffles, once again at a booth on the Farmer’s Market. You can find her there most weekends, when she is not out of the country. She is known as “The Chocolate Queen,” until another passion pulls her onward in her life's amazing journey.
