Before turning to photography in 1995, Hal Eastman enjoyed a long executive career in several diverse industries. His developing photographic interest was initially drawn to remote areas in California, Idaho, and Hawaii, sites of rhythmic forms sculpted over time by the primal natural forces of wind, water and seasonal change. Later he discovered a similar poetry in the movement of dancers in natural settings. The result is a series of photographs of dancers in nature and, more recently, in studio settings which capture the spirit and sculptural essence of dance movement. Hal's unusual camera and printing techniques, developed over several years, give the images the feel of impressionist paintings and represent an innovative approach to dance photography.
Hal Eastman was born in Seattle, Washington, and now lives in Boise, Idaho, with his wife Jacque. He has published four photography books, Natural Dance, Dancessence, Dream Riders, and Vanishing Venice. Limited edition fine art prints are also available from each book. He has also published a career success guide called GET HIRED! Grow. Lead. Live.
