When I started leadership and change management work many years ago some groups would ask, "Why are we building a team? The boss is going to make all the decisions." Over time the concept of teamwork gained more traction and acceptance but it was not overnight. The same phenomenon of disbelief showed up when approaches like mindfulness meditation, work style inventories, participative decision making, or emotional intelligence were introduced. I got a lot of strange looks at first but eventually what was seen as radically new became accepted and even old hat. I expect the same pattern will play out with "Confessions of a Corporate Shaman" and "Wake Up & Lead." The fun part, however, of stepping out of your comfort zone is its not ever crowded outside that zone and the company you find there is always exceptional.
