Laura M. Ramirez

Laura teaches parents how to raise children to develop their unique strengths so they can grow up to lead fulfilling lives and make the world a better place for all of us. Her work combines Native American wisdom teachings with child development, for a fresh, humane approach to parenting and child discipline. A number of the teaching stories in her books come from her husband's tribe: the Pascua Yaqui of Tucson, Az.

Born in Pontiac, MI, Ms. Ramirez spent much of her early years moving from state to state, often switching schools in the middle of the year. As a young business woman, she continued this trend, traveling to countries around the world. This opened her eyes to her own limited perspective and the rich and varied cultural traditions of people around the world. She became fascinated by Native American culture when she met and fell in love with her husband and started the research for her book soon after she discovered that she was pregnant with her first child.

Laura Ramirez is a workshop leader, keynote speaker and author of the award-winning book, Keepers of the Children: Native American Wisdom and Parenting, Keepers of the Children: Companion Workbook/Journal and Parenting the Native Way: Raising Children to Live in Balance with the Natural World, a 2-DVD set (available only from her web site: walk-in-peace.com/parentingthenativeway.html). Her book won a Nautilus Award from Martha Stewart's company, Omnivision, for books that "promote conscious living and social change." Laura's work is used by families (of all creeds and colors) and by tribes and nations across the U.S., Canada as well as by the indigenous peoples of Australia, New Zealand and South America.
