Richard Sheppard Mitchell

Richard S. Mitchell - Although he has authored and edited a number of botany books, Richard's interests have turned to writing fiction, sometimes set in the southeastern states. He particularly admires southern writers, such as John Steinbeck, Eudora Welty, Harper Lee and Truman Capote. He is also fascinated with futuristic themes and writes science fiction and fantasy. One of his joys lies in taking a plot that might seem unlikely and making it into something that at least HE thinks is wonderful. His latest novels are "Karme," "Fecty" and "Infinity Brown," all available as Kindle e-books on Amazon.com. He also offers an e-book autobiography: "My Life as I Choose to Remember It." He was born in Indianapolis and has lived in seven states. A graduate of Florida State University, he holds a Ph.D. in Botany from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a jazz and pop musician who has played in Town Hall in New York and sung calypso songs on the Lawrence Welk Show at age 19. He was a biology professor at Virginia Tech., then lived in upstate New York for 27 years where he was The New York State Botanist. In retirement, he lives in Crystal Beach, FL.
