Dianne Romain

Dianne Romain lives with novelist Sterling Bennett in the house she designed in Guanajuato, a colonial city smack in the center of Mexico and the site of her novel The Trumpet Lesson.

Dianne grew up in rural Missouri and went to college at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she fell in love with philosophy. After completing her PhD at UC Berkeley, she taught feminist ethics and philosophy of emotion at Sonoma State University and published Thinking Things Through, a critical thinking textbook. She also taught philosophy and yoga to prison inmates during a year’s sabbatical in Mexico.

While living in California, Dianne practiced fiction techniques in a class that morphed into a women’s writing group. After moving to Mexico, she began writing The Trumpet Lesson. To get to know her trumpet-playing characters, she took up the trumpet and enjoyed playing jazz and classical duets in the plazas of Guanajuato. Now she teaches beginning Lindy Hop. Her current writing projects set in Guanajuato include short stories and another novel.
