Robert W. Pike

Bob Pike is known worldwide as "the trainer's trainer". But, he started his career doing what most trainers do -- overusing lecture. But he burned out participants going through his three week master training academy. This led to him designing what he today calls, instructor-led, participant-centered training. The result was transformational. Participants learned faster, better, and easier -- and more importantly transferred what tey had learned to the job.

His "Creative Training Techniques Handbook" has sold over 330,000 copies in its first three editions making it the best-selling train the trainer book ever published. He has written over 30 books and created more than a dozen video training programs. He built the Bob Pike Group into a multimillion dollar training/consulting company before selling it in 2013. He continues to have a busy boutique training/consulting practice. He has designed over 600 training programs of a day or longer in his career for clients like IBM, Hewlett Packard, Pfizer, Mayo Clinics, Saudia Airlines, Aramco, and Covidien to name a few.

He has worked in over 25 countries and over 125,000 trainers on five continents have been through his two day train the trainer program. His latest version is called "Bob Pike's Master class in Instructor-led, Participant-Centered Training". He has presented at every American Society for Training and Development ASTD (now ATD) Ice and Training Magazine Conference since 1977 and has been in the top 3 presenters in class size and evaluations for more than 25 years. He presents at global conferences at least a dozen times per year.

In 1987 he created a newsletter/blog/forum which today is called "Bob Pike's Training and Performance Forum" which monthly energizes thousands of trainers with new ideas and solutions to their problems.

His "Training and Performance Group" on TrainingMagNetwork is one of their most popular.

In 2007 the Instructional Systems Association presented him with its Thought Leaders Award for his life time contributions to the profession and a survey by TrainingIndustry.com named him one the the 20 most influential people in training and performance globally. He is one of 48 people to have earned the National Speakers Association's (NSA)Certified Speaking Professional and been inducted into the Council of Peers Award for Excellence (CPAE) Speakers Hall of Fame. In 2013 He was named an Association for Talent Development CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) Fellow.

In 2002 he joined the board of Lead Like Jesus (cofounded by Ken Blanchard) and served five years as Chairman. He helped design their "Leadership Encounter with Jesus" drawing on his background as a pastor, carpenter, and trainer.
