Stephen L. Priest

Hi, Outdoor Steve here. I live in Sunapee, New Hampshire with my wife and outdoor enthusiast Catherine. We have two adult sons, Shaun and Timothy, my outdoor playmates. My grandchildren, Madison and Carson, and daughter-in-law Christine are in many of my short stories. I have authored six outdoor guidebooks with documentary videos.

I have a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst, MA) and a master’s degree in Operations Research from the University of Rhode of Island (Wakefield, RI). I have served as a healthcare administrator specializing in information systems. I authored two healthcare information systems textbooks. I have been an assistant professor of information systems at Daniel Webster College (Nashua, NH) and an adjunct professor at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. I have served in the U.S. Army with an overseas assignment.

My latest book, "Outdoor Play: Hiking New Hampshire's Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway - 75 Miles on a Fourteen Trail Loop" is unique as I share a video of my personal experience on each trail. The videos make the hike "come alive."

One of my book titles, “Outdoor Play Fun 4 Seniors,” comes because I qualify as a “senior” in any sense of the word. I respond to Grampa, Papa, Dad, Steve, Outdoor Steve, and super senior. Outdoor Play Fun 4 Seniors has behind-the-scenes videos to give the feeling of “being there.” Northern New England is where most of my trips have been. The Great North Woods of New Hampshire and Maine, Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Northern Forest Canoe Trail, Maine Island Trail, New Hampshire Winter, northern sections of the Appalachian Trail, and more. Each trip has a personally created on-site video. For example, I describe what it is like to cross the fabled and dangerous Knife Edge Trail on Mt Katahdin. Through my chest camera, you “feel” what it is like to hike this one mile 18-inch wide trail 5,000 feet above sea level.

Most outings include maps, pictures, videos, directions, and references.

My video, “Tips to cook an egg in onion in a campfire” has over 50,000 views, "The Making of an Otter Tail Paddle" has over 75,000 views.

I am a volunteer producer for Outdoor TV shows at Bedford Community Television, and produced more than 20 documentary shows on on hiking and paddling in New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. I am a motivational speaker for “outdoor play”.

“Everyone must believe in something. I believe I will go outdoors with my family.” S. Priest
