John Riggs was born in Danville, VA, spent his early years in Miami Beach, and then grew up on Long Island, moving up the coast to New Haven for college at Yale and graduate school at Yale Divinity School. He earned his PhD from The Graduate School, The University of Notre Dame, and was Professor of Historical Theology and Church History at Eden Theological Seminary until he retired in 2012. He then finished a BSN at Barnes-Jewish Goldfarb School of Nursing in St. Louis, and, for the first seven years of retirement, worked as a hospital pediatric RN for Mercy Kids, from which he retired (anew) in November 2020. August 2015 saw his second technical book in the Columbia Series in Reformed Theology (Westminster John Knox Press); a study of the Augustinian Eucharistic tradition as inherited by and embodied in five hundred years of the Reformed tradition. Now in his 70's, John is working on a new book -- developing a theology for worship -- while he spends time gravel biking, kayaking, and hiking.
