Lisa Frankfort

Lisa Frankfort doesn't think too much of being put in a box, or defined by a label, or assigned a type. Born in Houston, raised in Montreal, nurtured in San Francisco. With a decided pull towards the UK. Thought she'd be a teacher. Or raise Arabian horses. Went to school in Canada to make films. Moved back to the US. The experience of being in a community of people, a film crew of people, was found to be more enticing than celluloid. Studied psychology, became a therapist. An author. A teacher. Writing about community, about connection and sometimes, the lack of it. Writing fiction about complex, creative people, and sometimes . . . horses. But not necessarily Arabians.

Lisa is a licensed psychotherapist and the Director of Haight Ashbury Psychological Services, a training clinic for masters and doctoral students. Part of her job achieves that fantasy from elementary school - teaching. But she's a Ph.D. now, so her career also involves writing self help books, giving workshops, and mentoring some really bright and talented therapists in training, as well as telling them to keep the front door closed when it's cold and to throw out their leftovers.

She'd love to hear what you, the reader, thinks about her books - what specifically worked for you, and what didn't. What you need from a book in order to feel helped by it. Ideas for the next one. Or two. How you think change happens. How you were stuck and how you got yourself unstuck.
