Frank Palmos

Frank (Francis) Palmos is an Australian author and translator.

Born Melbourne 20 January 1940.

Father Angelos Palmos, born Meganisi Island, Greece, 1900. Mother Irene Fitzpatrick, born Melbourne 1913.

Educated Warragul High School, University of Melbourne. Indonesia: Universities of Indonesia, Jakarta and Pajajaran (Pendengar), France: Diplomat Linguistic Centre, Besancon. Perth: University of Western Australia.

Foreign Correspondent South East Asia (1964-1978), Dean of Foreign Correspondents (1966-1974).

Founder first Australian Newspaper Bureau in Jakarta, 1964, writing for Herald-Sun, Sydney Morning Herald, The Economist, London. Contributor to The New York Times, Washington Post, St Louis Despatch, Los Angeles Times.

"Ridding the Devils" (Bantam 1960) is the successful semi-autobiographical work detailing the search for a Viet Cong squad that killed four Western journalists in a Saigon ambush, from which he escaped by feigning death, on 5 May 1968.

Author of the English Version from Phan Thanh Hao's base translation of Bao Ninh's "The Sorrow of War" novel now in 15 languages, translated from the English Version.
