Karen Sperling

Corel Painter Master Elite Karen Sperling has been painting with and teaching Corel Painter since she wrote the first several Painter manuals and demo'd Painter when it debuted at Boston Macworld in August 1991.

She wrote several published Corel Painter books, including the popular Painting for Photographers series.

She currently teaches photographers and hobbyists how to turn photos into paintings in Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop online in her Artistry Academy of Painting for Photographers, named after her popular books.

Karen traditionally published a Corel Painter magazine and later, a Corel Painter ezine. Karen's Corel Painter tutorials have appeared in many professional photography publications, including Professional Photographers magazine and Rangefinder. Photographers and hobbyists internationally learn to turn photos into paintings with her Artistry instructional videos and custom brushes.

Karen has taught and demo'd Corel Painter for over 30 years all over the United States, including the national Professional Photographers of America (PPA) convention; local PPA affiliates and PPA schools, including Mid-Atlantic Regional School of Professional Photography (M.A.R.S.); Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI ); American Film Institute; Macworld; Seybold; and SIGGRAPH. She has taught Corel Painter at many companies and schools, including Disney, American Greetings and the New School for Social Research in New York. Photographers have flown in to Los Angeles from all over the world to study with Karen either privately or to attend her in-person Artistry Retreats.

Karen paints commissioned art directly for clients and for photographers for their clients. Her abstract art has been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles and during Art Basel Miami Beach. Karen's paintings are held in private collections around the world.
