After completing the film production program at New York University he fell victim to a terrible bout of bipolar illness that is described in God Head. Although it left him handicapped Zwiren continued to write, draw, and paint. The titles Telling Stories,Seeing Things, and Painting Pictures and other titles are a culmination of twenty-five years of work that went through versions as novels, plays, improvisation, and even music before their completion. As the end of Telling Stories states, "Leaps begin in seeing things not as you imagine them to be." They come by trial and error, the unconscious, and faith, and the end result is seldom what was first envisioned.
