Catherine Failor

Catherine Failor is author of two books, Making Transparent Soap Making Natural Liquid Soap as well as a bulletin, Making Cream Soap. The two books were the first to bring the art and craft of hot-process soapmaking to the home soapmaker. As a business person, Catherine started a specialty soap manufacturing company, Copra Soap, the very first embedded soaps to appear on the market. Her next venture was Milky Way Molds, the first decorative soap molds, which were distributed internationally. Since selling Milky Way Molds, Catherine has been involved in personal art projects. Her current project is a children's book, soon to be published. Entitled The Dragon Tree, the story is an old-fashioned fairy tale complete with trolls, dragons, forest creatures and a journey through mysterious forests. Instead of illustrating the book, Catherine learned the art of stop-motion animation puppetry and built all her characters and props by hand. The book was photographed in forests in and around Portland, OR . She wanted a sense of "magical realism" for the story, and hopes to connect young readers with the mystery and magic of the natural world. Catherine lives most of the year in Portland OR, and part time in a small rustic cabin in SW Colorado.
