Neil Shulman

Neil Shulman M.D., a.k.a. the “real” Doc Hollywood, is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He is the author of over 30 novels, children’s books, and consumer health books.

He was associate producer of the Warner Brothers hit movie "Doc Hollywood," starring Michael J. Fox, which was based on one of his books. He has also written and/or produced for CBS, CNN, and Disney.

For several decades, he has performed comedy, motivational presentations, and lectures in medical education for general audiences, medical professionals, seniors, and kids across the United States and around the world. The spectrum of his performances range from events for Rosalyn Carter, the UN, and Disney, to programs for cancer patients, Alzheimer’s patients, and kids with disabilities, to fundraisers with Jane Fonda and Miss America.

Neil also became known as the public television personality Doc Neil the Banana Peel with his live "What's in a Doctors Bag?" show based on one of his children's books, and the PSAs by the same name which aired on GPB and APT during children's programming hours.

Neil was, at one time, a researcher in cardiovascular disease, receiving over eight million dollars in NIH grants and co-authoring over 50 scientific papers. He has also served as Chairman of the Board for the real Patch Adam’s non-profit organization, Gesundheit! Institute.
