Walter McKenzie

Walter McKenzie is the founder of The Worthy Educator, a thriving community of leaders in education supporting each other to have impact and build lasting legacies in their work. Before retiring in 2024, he served as the Senior Director for Constituent Services at ASCD. Prior to this, he served 25 years in Massachusetts and Virginia public schools: 14 years as a classroom teacher and 11 years as a district trainer, coordinator, director, and assistant superintendent. He also served as a training specialist for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C., and its field offices around the United States. He is a strong proponent of using social media technologies to transform organizations as they strive to meet the needs of their members in the 21st century.

In addition to his work in public education, Walter is an internationally known author and presenter on multiple intelligences theory and instructional technology, and he has authored several books on these subjects. He was Director of Communications for Massachusetts ASCD from 2005 to 2007, where he managed all print- and web-based communications and publications, as well as President of the Massachusetts Computer Using Educators. leading the movement to form the first regional affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education, the New England Society for Technology in Education, comprising all six New England states.

Walter holds a bachelor’s degree in early and middle childhood education from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on instructional technology from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
