Gillian Torckler

I live near the bottom of the world in beautiful New Zealand. I have been writing books about the unique ocean life around New Zealand since 1999. Many of my books have been written specifically with children in mind. My husband Darryl Torckler, is an amazing natural history photographer. That's not only my opinion, he has many, many international awards to support that! It turns out he's pretty good with knitwear as well. We recently collaborated on a new series of knitting books.

Besides writing, I am a sonographer and health researcher; I have a PhD in medicine/cardiovascular ultrasound; I love doing medical research; I like to spend time with my family; and I love being in or around the sea.

I also like to craft with wool - knitting, crochet, weaving, spinning. It was inevitable really that I started to write knitting books. My first knitting books are being published by David Bateman in NZ, and Stackpole in the USA.
