Sharon Poole

Sharon Poole moved to Weston-super-Mare in 1972. For nearly thirty years she worked as social and local history curator at North Somerset Museum Service. Her first local history books were published in 1987.

In 2001 she left the museum to pursue other interests, including photography and travel, although her interest in local history remained. She has continued to write books on the history of the area, and to record the changing features of the town, both photographically and in words.

Sharon has had an interest in maritime history, notably passenger shipping, since childhood and has a large collection of liner memorabilia. In 2010, Sharon joined with Andrew Sassoli-Walker to write the career of the cruise ship Royal Princess / Artemis / Artania. In 2011 Sharon and Andrew were commissioned by P&O Cruises to write the official book celebrating 175 years of their heritage. The pair have now written six maritime books and Sharon's first solo maritime book - a mixture of history and travelogue - was published in November 2018 Her informal and inclusive style of writing has won many fans.
