Relli Shechter is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Middle East Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. He trained as an economic historian and received his Ph.D. from Harvard University. His most recent book is The Rise of the Egyptian Middle Class: Socio-Economic Mobility and Public Discontent from Nasser to Sadat (Cambridge, 2018). A new book, The Egyptian Social Contract: A History of State-Middle Class Relations, is forthcoming with Edinburgh University Press.
