I am a practicing engineer, an engineering researcher, educator and writer. As engineers we shape our world and we could eliminate most poverty and human suffering in a generation, provided enough of us can learn how to become truly expert engineers. What's more, we can do that in ways that preserve our planet and sustain human civilisation indefinitely. That's my dream.
To do that we need to think about engineering in different ways.
I have been an inventor as well, developing sheep shearing robots and new ways to provide air conditioned comfort using much less energy than in the past, even new ways to use email communication.
Most of my insights have come from experiencing the confronting realities of life in South Asian megacities where there is so much human potential lying in wait. For more see my blog at jamesptrevelyan dot com
