Rupert Creed

Rupert Creed is a writer, theatre director, broadcaster, creative writing facilitator & story consultant with over 35 years professional experience. He was the writer of 'Made in Hull'- the opening event for Hull 2017 City of Culture. His books include: 'The Mick Ronson Story-Turn and Face the Strange' (with Garry Burnett) a new biography of the brilliant guitarist, album producer and Bowie sideman; ‘Turning the Tide’ the story of Hull’s 1968 Triple Trawler Tragedy and the fishermen’s wives campaign for safety; ‘Steeltown’ the story of Scunthorpe’s iron and steel industry. He has written & directed over 20 stage plays, specialising in documentary and community play practice. His plays include ‘The Northern Trawl’ (Remould Theatre), ‘Every Time it Rains (Hull Truck) and large cast community plays for Howden, Hull, Bridlington and Dorchester in Dorset. He is Director of the Centre for Contemporary Storytelling and has produced several multi-media stage shows including ‘Turning the Tide’ (Hull’s 1968 Triple Trawler Tragedy & the wives campaign for safety) and ‘Turn and Face the Strange’ (Hull guitarist and Bowie collaborator Mick Ronson) He was Project Director of Freedom To Tell Tales (2013-16) and was Director of Hull Truck Act 111 Theatre Group (2014-2020) He was BBC Producer on the innovative digital storytelling project ‘Telling Lives’ (2002-5), and North West Broadcast Co-ordinator for the BBC ‘Peoples War’ project (2005). He has written & presented several feature programmes for BBC Radio 4. His youth theatre play ‘Slavers’ is the only play ever performed in the House of Commons - in 2007.
