Brent Edstrom

A prolific composer and arranger, Brent Edstrom has published more than 100 transcriptions of historically significant jazz musicians including Art Tatum, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and Kenny Barron. He authored more than 60 volumes for Hal Leonard Corporation’s Jazz Piano Solos Series, and his compositions and arrangements have been performed by symphony orchestras in Dallas, Kentucky, New Haven, Lincoln, and Spokane. In 2020, the orchestral version of his first song cycle, Prairie Songs: Remembering Ántonia, was selected as a national finalist for the American Prize in composition. Edstrom recorded his second song cycle, Song of the Lark, with jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton in 2023.

Edstrom’s research explores the intersection of music, recording arts, computer science, and electronics and he has authored three books for Oxford University Press including Recording on a Budget (2010), Arduino for Musicians (2016), and Sound and Music Projects for Eurorack and Beyond (2024).
