Roberta Schwartz Wennik, MS, RDN, brings something unique to the nutrition profession – she is an expert in the MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® - personality questionnaire), as well as being a registered dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She combines the two fields to present a personality approach to health and life. Roberta likes to say “know your type and you can improve your life”, whether it’s losing weight, becoming more active, or just simplifying your life to limit the stress. She's written such books as "Intuitive Living", "Your Personality Diet", "Is It Worth It?" (simplify your life), just to name a few.
A master’s in nutrition from the University of Washington came many years after a degree in Interior Design from the University of California. (As you can see, she thinks on both sides of her brain. She believes that her writing is enriched from her design skills, allowing her to write in a way that creates pictures in the reader's mind.) Her journey into nutrition occurred in the 1980s after reading so much diet quackery in the books of the day. With her love of writing and teaching (her type is an ENFJ), she wanted to help people learn to change their unhealthy habits in a way that was comfortable for their type. You can read more about it at www.advantagediets.com.
She has to give credit to Otto Kroeger, a guru of the MBTI®, who gave her the “aha” moment when she was reading one of his books on personality typing. Kroeger’s book was about using type in business for building teams and improving communication. At the time, no one had appreciated the value of type in regards to one’s health. Yet, Roberta could see a beautiful connection between type and losing weight. Her first book, "Your Personality Prescription" (1999 Kensington), and the many to follow — "Boomer’s Guide to Getting the Weight Off…For Good" (2004 Alpha Books), "Your Personality Lifestyle" (2011), "Your Personality Diet" (2012), "To Eat or Not To Eat, That Is the Question" (2014), "The Life-Changing Magic of Type" (2016), "Is It Worth It?-Simplify Your Life with Personality Type" (2017). and now "Intuitive Living (2019)— would show people how to honor WHO THEY ARE rather than follow the latest fad or cookie-cutter approach to changing unhealthy behaviors.
Roberta continues to write, but also finds great joy in helping others find their writing voice. She and her husband started Affordable Editing Services (www.affordableeditingservices.com to provide writing coaching, editing, book design, and publishing coaching to authors so they, too, can experience the joy and pleasure of sharing their expertise. It could be as simple as a blog post or magazine article all the way up to a book. As they like to say at AES, “no author should be without an editor and writing coach”.
