Michael Powell

Michael Powell is a British writer whose work blends real wartime history with character‑driven storytelling. Before turning to fiction, he enjoyed a long musical career as both baritone and tenor, performing with opera companies across the UK while also working as an IT consultant and software designer.

He has written for Computer Weekly, The Guardian and the Financial Times, and is the librettist of the opera Mister Butterfly, performed in Hong Kong in 2000.

Michael divides his time between the UK and the Greek island of Leros, whose dramatic wartime past and generous, welcoming people inspired the settings and characters of his novels. Conversations with islanders—many passing down memories from the Italian, German and British occupations—formed the foundation of Four’s Destiny and its companion stories.

His second and third novels, Cheese and Chalk and Separate Times, are now available, and his fourth, Weisser than White, completing the Leros Destinies series, is forthcoming.
