Eugenie Doyle (1952-)was born in New York City and grew up partly in Greenwich Village and partly in a small town in Connecticut. There she developed a life-long love of farming and gardening. After graduating from Harvard she moved to Vermont where she has lived and farmed ever since. She began writing seriously after she and her husband sold their dairy herd and focused on growing organic berries and vegetables. She writes in the winter and farms in the summer (www.lastresortfarm.com). In addition to her two novels for young adults, she has published stories in Glimmer Train, Story Quarterly and Rush Hour. She is devoted to documenting and celebrating the declining farm population in Vermont and every year sponsors a contest, "Farming in Monkton" for school children in the town where she lives.
