Southern Living recently wrote: "Susan Byrum Rountree’s fascination with Nags Head began when she was a child, visiting the Outer Banks and admiring the century-old beach cottages she came to think of as the 'Unpainted Aristocracy.' Her curiosity about the people who lived in them eventually led to newspaper stories, years of research and interviews, and her book Nags Headers, a history of the community and its iconic cottages.” Credit: Southern Living
