Clive Tully

A temporary halt in his quest for stardom playing in a rock band in the late 1970s led to Clive Tully taking up writing for outdoors magazines, and from there, travel features for newspapers and local radio. He has travelled widely, often walking or backpacking in the world's wild places, and he has led a trek in the Himalayas for British Everest legend Doug Scott CBE.

His natural appetite for excitement inspired him to take on more and more adventurous pursuits. He was the first journalist to fly in a hot air balloon in Russia, has travelled at over 90mph in a four-man bobsleigh down the Olympic Bob run in St Moritz, and descended 100 feet to the bottom of Windermere in the English Lake District in a submersible. He was onboard journalist and TV cameraman on Alan Priddy's round-the-world powerboat "Spirit of Cardiff" on all its world record breaking runs 1999-2003, producing magazine and newspaper features, the book "Confronting Poseidon," three TV documentaries and several lectures. Another attempt at the round-the-world record is in preparation.

An award-winning writer, photographer and broadcaster, Clive has covered travel in all its forms, from outdoors leisure, adventure travel and hard expeditions to posh hotels, spa holidays and five-star cruising. His speciality over the last 40 years has been product reviews for walking, backpacking and trekking, and he has been equipment editor of four walking magazines, and correspondent for many more, including his own outdoors column in the Weekend section of the Daily Telegraph. His travel features have been published in the majority of UK national newspapers.
