Jay Verney is an Australian writer who has published four novels, "Percussion" (University of Queensland Press), "A Mortality Tale" (Allen & Unwin, 1st Edition; UQP, 2nd Edition), "Spawned Secrets", and "Summon Up The Blood" (both from Zen Kettle Books). She also writes in other genres including essays, articles, memoir, opinion pieces, newspaper columns, movie reviews, poetry, short stories, theses, and comics.
Jay's first novel, "A Mortality Tale", was shortlisted for the Australian/Vogel and Miles Franklin Literary Awards. Jay has a PhD (in genre and crime fiction), and a Master's degree (memoir) in Creative Writing from Queensland University. In 2009, she received a Dean's Award for Outstanding Research Higher Degree Thesis for her PhD, out of which she published "Creating A Custom Fit In An Off-the-Rack Genre World: The Proximal Investigator, The Corpse of Convenience, and Their Family of Circumstance in Crime Fiction".
Jay has also published books of poetry, including "The Mindful Art of Verandaku", Volumes 1 and 2, and "Zenku 365", all of which are variations on the Japanese poetic form, Haiku. Her memoir, "The Women Come and Go", is published in one volume, along with an essay about the process of writing memoir, "The Women Came and Went".
"The Other (L'Autre) Tour de France - The Chefs' Tour", is Jay's first foray into comics, and is a story about cycling chefs, curious cats, and cunning criminals, inspired by her comic blog, Last Cat On Mars (visit Last Cat at www.lastcatonmars.wordpress.com).
