Sid Mittra

Sid Mittra, Ph.D., CFP, is Emeritus Professor of Finance at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, as well as a former partner and founder of the financial consulting firm Mittra & Associates. He is a former board member of the International Board of Standards and Practices of Certified Financial Planners and has many times been a presenter at international seminars including the World Conference of the International Association for Financial Planning.

He has also worked as a consultant to the United Nations in Bangkok. Mittra has written more than a hundred technical articles and 12 books on finance and economics, including Practicing Financial Planning: A Complete Guide for Professionals, parts of which won a gold Axiom Business Book Award in 2008. Mittra authored the longest-running financial planning columns in the Oakland Press and the Detroit-area Eccentric newspapers and has also hosted a regional television show called "Your Money" on personal finance.

Born under crossed stars in Banaras (India), Sid was the dunce who was caned constantly in Calcutta, the high school student who graduated late, the clerk for the Reserve Bank of Kanpur who was trapped in a dreary dead-end job, and the research assistant in Bombay who fumbled the Fulbright. Miraculously, Sid eventually grew into the man whose dreams of earning a Ph.D. in the United States, becoming a published author, establishing himself as an international authority in personal finance, engaging in numerous charitable activities, and helping others from all walks of life finally came true.

Dr. Mittra currently lives with his wife in Rochester, Michigan.
