Barry Grills

Journalist and novelist Barry Grills began writing at age fifteen. He writes fiction and nonfiction. His short stories have appeared in various Canadian literary magazines, including the annual anthology Best Canadian Stories. His memoir Every Wolf's Howl, published by Freehand Books, is an award winner about his years with an Algonquin wolf cross that transformed his life forever. He is a former chair of The Writers' Union of Canada and the Book and Periodical Council of Canada. He was a recipient of a life membership in The Writers' Union of Canada in 2019 in recognition of extraordinary contributions to the Union and the lives of writers. I And You, And Me And Her was published in May 2018. A dramatic and often humorous romance about the perfidy of fate, this novel has been called a romantic tour de force. Roadkill, his dystopian novel of love, adventure and human struggle, appeared in November 2017, and was a finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards and the Whistler Independent Book Awards. Oblivion, published in November, 2018, is the story of a Utopian world known for its peace, tranquility and plenty. It was written with financial grant assistance from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council. His most recent book, Too Late The Hunter, appeared in 2019 and has been called an innovative, twisted thriller about erotic love. Grills collected nearly fifty years of published short stories--along with anecdotal history, and writing and publishing information--into a book of short fiction entitled Cock-Eyed Voice, published in 2020. The Last Light Spoken, published in March, 2021 was the second in a thematic existential love trilogy. His recent publication of An Ecstasy in May 2023 represents the publication of the final novel in the series. It has been critically praised for its innovative use of point of view.
