Darcy Keith Rhyno

I can't remember a time when I wasn't a writer. My first short story won the Halifax Chronicle Herald Short Story Contest, and I've been writing professionally ever since. Nova Scotia has nearly always been home, but I have travelled extensively as a writer and for my own education, which led to work as a travel writer, regular contributions to magazines like Saltscapes and authoring the 2016 Frommers Guide to the Maritimes. My YA novel "Monsters of Suburbia" is based on an event in my own life as a teen when - like so many from Canada's east coast - I moved for a short time with my family to the west coast. My two collections of short stories "Holidays" and "Conductor of Waves" are mostly inspired by events in my own life in Nova Scotia, although some take place in other settings. In a review of the latter, the Globe and Mail wrote, "an exceptional talent." Of the same collection, Silver Donald Cameron wrote, "Spare and clean, these are impressively truthful stories." Of Holidays (longlisted for the ReLit award) Christy Ann Conlin wrote, "With an uncanny knack for contrast, Rhyno writes with grit and beauty, showing lives where everything is predictable and yet nothing is."
