Lou Mandler

Lou Mandler grew up on a dryland farm in northeastern Montana, and after graduating from Montana State University in Bozeman, she taught in Ardrossan, Alberta and Idaho Falls, Idaho. Matriculating at the Bread Loaf School of English in Middlebury, Vermont precipitated a move to New England. In Connecticut, Lou was a teacher and administrator at Canterbury School, a college preparatory school. Her time at Canterbury resulted in a biographical sketch on alum Richard Dillon and an article on Ernest Hemingway's sons at Canterbury. Her continued affection for her native state of Montana inspired the memoir This Storied Land and the biography of Billings mayor Willard Fraser, son-in-law of Robert Frost: Montana's Visionary Mayor.
