Amy Uyematsu is a sansei (3rd-generation Japanese American) poet and teacher from Los Angeles. Her poetry books include "The Yellow Door "(2015), "Stone Bow Prayer" (2005), "Nights of Fire, Nights of Rain" (1998), and "30 Miles from J-Town" (1992). She was the 1992 recipient of the Nicholas Roerich Poetry Prize. She was also co-editor of "Roots: An Asian American Reader" (UCLA). As a younger woman, Amy helped to develop Asian American Studies at UCLA, and for over 30 years she taught high school math for the Los Angeles Unified Schools. Her poems reflect an unusual intersection of politics, mathematics, and spirituality.
