Doug Mackey is the youngest of 6 children born to the family of a stone mason in upstate New York at a little town called New Paltz. Having suffered two falls resulting in concussions his parents were advised no to let him play sports.
He went on to star and letter in four sports while in High school. He also worked part time all four years in high school in a variety of jobs including helper to plumbers, carpenters, electric ans, painters and as a short order cook, ice cream counter clerk, newspaper delivery and cab driver.
His work ethic followed him into the service where he served for 12 years on active duty in places like Italy, Germany, Korea, and Viet Nam. After his service he settled in Kansas where he and his wife Willemijntje raise a daughter Hendrina.
His writing career was sparked by his passion for golf. having spent years playing the came and mastering his skills as well as teaching others as a club pro. His teachings are what sets his writing a part from others who write about the game.
