Born and raised in Chicago, Deborah Cummins is the author of two poetry collections, "Counting the Waves" and "Beyond the Reach" and a newly released collection of personal essays titled "Here and Away: Discovering Home on an Island in Maine." The recipient of numerous awards, her poems and essays have been published in several anthologies and more than 60 journals and magazines and featured multiple times on Garrison Keillor's "The Writer's Almanac." Most recently, she was named the winner of the 2012 Maine Literary Awards in Short Works Non-Fiction by the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance. She resides in Chicago and Deer Isle, Maine.
