Werner Bätzing

Werner Bätzing was Born in Kassel, Germany, in 1949 and grew up in North Hesse. He initially studied Protestant Theology and Philosophy (1968-1974), before working in the book trade and publishing (1976-1982). From 1983-1987, to further his interest in the Alps at the academic level, he studied Geography at the Technical University of Berlin. From 1988-1995, he worked as an Assistant and Lecturer in the Institute of Geography at the University of Bern, Switzerland, where he quickly completed his doctorate and post-doctoral research, From 1995-2014, he was Professor of Cultural Geography at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He is since the Director of the Archive for Integrative Alpine Research.
