Peter F. Peters is Associate Professor and Endowed Professor in the Innovation of Classical Music at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University and director of the Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music (MCICM), founded in 2018. The MCICM focuses on the question how to shape new futures for an art form that revolves around reiterating the past. Trained as a sociologist and philosopher, he worked in the field of science and technology studies on topics such as travel time, innovation, mobilities, arts and music. In his current research on innovating classical music practices, especially symphonic music, he combines a life-long passion for music with an interest in how artistic and musical practices can be a subject and site of academic and practice-oriented research. Recently, he published Electronic Baroque: Building a Historical Organ for the Present (MIT Press, 2025) and co-edited Classical Music Futures. Practices of Innovation (Open Book Publishers, 2024), and Dialogues Between Artistic Research and Science and Technology Studies (Routledge, 2019).
