Gregory Thomas Lombardo

Gregory T. Lombardo MD, Ph.D (1946-2019) was a prominent New York psychiatrist and literary scholar who earned his degrees in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University, and his medical degree from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. His doctoral dissertation on Shakespeare was written under the tutelage of the renowned Professor Edward W. Tayler, while he was also teaching English at the Trinity School in Manhattan. The Character Within is an outgrowth of his dissertation, incorporating further insights into Shakespeare's techniques of characterization from his study of psychoanalysis and the mind. As a board certified adult and child psychiatrist, Gregory Lombardo specialized in the treatment of bipolar disorder. He is the author of a highly regarded book on the subject entitled, Understanding the Mind of your Bipolar Child.
